Here is a brief description on some
of these systems
Trim & Drain System
Hoffer Flow Controls has designed and supplied Trim and
Drain Systems used in the 6680 Class submarine. A system
consists of the two flowmeters, rate indicators and flow
totalizers. The flow media is salt water. The Hoffer equipment
is in the pressure system of the submarine. Failure of
this system would endanger
the lives of those aboard the submarine. As such, we have
been approved for Level I, sub-safe systems. This approval
requires stringent controls for material traceability
and testing. This system has been tested
to meet MIL-STD-901C for high shock.
Flow Switch for Fire Control System
Hoffer Flow Controls designs and manufactures flow switches
of varying sizes including 5x4, 4x4, 4x3, 1½x1½.
These switches are utilized in the fire control system
on nuclear surface frigates. The flow switch housings
are bronze while the internals are monel. Hoffer routinely
works with navy bronze, monel, and other exotic materials.
Hoffer flow switches meet the following military standards;
high shock MIL-STD901C, vibration MIL-STD-167B, and magnetic
field effects MIL-STD-1399.
Trident Submarine Missile Cooling System
This system consists of four 1½” and one
1" turbine flowmeters. Five systems are used on each
submarine in the missile cooling system. Flowmeters are
of stainless steel construction. Each flowmeter is supplied
with an ACC7, signal conditioner. These flowmeters are
an integral component in a system on nuclear class trident
submarines. The flow media is demineralized water for
missile cooling. The meters are in continuous service
and have been approved to meet high shock MIL-STD-901C,
vibration MIL-STD-167B, and electro-magnetic interference
MIL-STD-461 AND -462. Additionally, this equipment meets
MIL-STD-1399 which is a magnetic field effects test. The
flowmeters were tested to meet an accelerated life endurance
test.
