Application:
Measure pounds of milk production from controlled groups of cows (250 in a group) using different feed rations and adjusting to meet the most cost efficient ration per pounds of milk produced. The same system also tells the producer exactly how much milk is shipped to packers.

System Requirements:
Must be accurate to ±0.5%.
Must be 3A sanitary certified.
Must be able to clean in place with steam.
Must meet NEMA 4X washdown standards.

Solution:
1½" 3A Certified Sanitary Turbine Flowmeter to meter milk as it was collected from controlled groups
of cows.

Flowmeter Model Number: HO 1½X1½-8-130-C-1M-TRI
Flowmeter Operating Temp: 38ºF with steam cleaning up to +450ºF. (Standard for "C" bearing and
magnetic coil).
Flowmeter Max. Pressure: 300 PSI.

Model 2000 Flowstar Computer, reading gallons on totalizer and gallons per minute on rate display. (Could be configured to read in pounds based on a fixed specific gravity).
Model Number: 2000-A-3-R2-1-1-M-X-1-HO/LO-ND-X.
Integrally mounted in a NEMA 4X enclosure on the flowmeter. (This is an option not specified by this
user).

Hoffer Advantage:
Hoffer 3A Sanitary Series is 3A Certified. "Hard Carbon Composite" sleeve type bearing is suitable for steam cleaning. User must limit velocity of steam as defined in Hoffer Tech Note 36. Flowmeter as specified is temperature rated to +450º F. This is important if the flowmeter is steam cleaned.

Summary:
The information gathered by the meter and Flowstar computer determine whether a more expensive ration was cost effective in milk production versus dollars invested. This information can mean the difference between profitability and bankruptcy.
